How is the Balance of State Continuum of Care Organized?
- Covers 101 counties-the other 4 metropolitan counties have their own CoC process
- Annual competition for over $2.5 million for transitional and permanent housing projects.
- The Kansas Statewide Homeless Coalition (KSHC) is the lead entity for the Balance of State CoC.
- The BoS CoC is divided into seven regions, with one or two regional coordinators.
- Local networking groups and homeless service providers make up the Regional Committees
- Regional Coordinators, along with the Core working group, form the BoS CoC subcommittee.
Counties in the BoS CoC
Kansas BoS CoC Implementation
- CoC Lead is the Kansas Statewide Homeless Coalition
- They have a HUD SHP grant to fund the software, training and computer and internet access.
- KHRC contracts with MAACLink who is the software vendor and database administrator.
- The BoS CoC will be evaluated soon in order to assess readiness for participation in the AHAR.
- KHRC also contracts with KSHC to facilitate implementation and coordination.
- Available to all homeless service providers in the 101 counties in the BoS CoC
Importance of HMIS Participation for Kansas
- Effects all KS CoC scores and ability to secure $$$$ for transitional and permanent housing projects.
- Provides data needed for HUD CoC Application
- Required for HUD funded programs
- HUD is requiring the BoS CoC to participate in the next AHAR
- James Chiselom at Kansas Housing Resources is the HMIS Program Administrator for the Balance of State CoC.
- Joe Coburn is the HMIS technical assistance specialist from the Mid America Assistance Council for all counties in Kansas with the exception of Sedgwick.
