How is the Balance of State Continuum of Care Organized?
- Covers 101 out of the 105 Kansas counties – the other 4 metropolitan counties have their own Continuum of Care (CoC) process
- Annual CoC competition for over $2.5 million for transitional and permanent housing projects
- The Kansas Statewide Homeless Coalition (KSHC) is the lead agency for the Balance of State (BoS) CoC
- The BoS CoC is divided into eight regions including Douglas County, with one or two Regional Coordinators
- Local networking groups and homeless service providers make up the regional committees
- Regional Coordinators, along with the Core working group, form the BoS CoC Committee

Homeless Management Information System
- Kansas Housing Resources Corporation (KHRC) has a Supportive Housing Program (SHP) grant to fund Homeless Management Information System (HMIS) software, training, computer and internet access for BoS projects and to all homeless service providers in the 101 counties in the BoS CoC
- KHRC contracts with KSHC to facilitate HMIS implementation and coordination
- KHRC contracts with Mid America Assistance Coalition (MAAC) as the HMIS software vendor and database administrator
Importance of HMIS Participation for Kansas
- Required for HUD funded programs to track homeless trends and data
- Effects all Kansas CoC scores and ability to secure $$$$ for transitional and permanent housing projects
